On February 18–19, 2019, the Nuclear Security Center of Excellence (NSCOE) conducted the workshop on Radiation Detection for Mid-Level Decision Makers at the State Border Crossing Points. The workshop was attended by 20 officials from the different State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania (SBGS) frontier-stations.

The workshop consisted of two parts: e-learning part (updating of theoretical knowledge), using a distance e-learning platform Moodle and the second part – discussions and practical tasks. During the e-learning part, the officers were updated knowledge of some aspects of ionizing radiation and examined the changes in legislation governing radiation control during border checks. During the second, practical part, the trainers, NSCOE specialists, presented information on the importance, significance and current threats of border radiation control in Lithuania and the world, together with participants examined in detail the procedure for the implementation of radiation control by the SBGS officials and its changes, methodology for detection of ionizing radiation, examples of documents, licenses and temporary permits, certificates of medical institutions and were discussed other actual for SBGS officials issues.
