On July 21 2021, representatives of the Nuclear Security Centre of Excellence (NSCOE) visited the Sea Port Frontier Station of the Pagegiai District of the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania (SBGS). The purpose of the trip – to meet the management of the Sea Port Frontier Station and to discuss different aspects of the radiation detection activities that are routinely taking place there. In particular, the issues with the technical condition of the radiation detection equipment the need for personnel training and to foster specific competencies, as well as standard operating procedures in Klaipeda Seaport, were discussed. Additionally, the joint group of the NSCOE staff and local Frontier Station management inspected the radiation detection installations in the Seaport.

At the end of the meeting, all parties agreed to continue collaboration and exchange of information.

Such visits are an effective way to better understand the specifics and needs of particular frontier stations and to receive their feedback. This is necessary to the NSCOE while planning for and providing support to the first line units.

The NSCOE is in charge of providing consultations in the field of radiation detection to SBGS units, training and implementation of the radiation detection infrastructure projects.
