On September 15 – 16, 2020 the Nuclear Safety Competence Center (BSKC) organized and conducted training on the topic “Radiation Control During Inspections” for the officers of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) Varena Border District at the Stasylai Railway Station Border Control Point (BCP).

The training was divided into two phases: the first – independent e-learning phase, organized on the Moodle self-learning platform, the second – contact learning phase at the Stasylai Railway Station BCP. During this learning, officers deepened their knowledge of the importance of cross-border radiation control, its significance and existing threats, the procedures for carrying out radiation control of officials of the SBGS, the methodology for the detection of ionizing radiation, the legal transportation of radioactive cargo and the peculiarities of checking these cargoes. In their usual place of employment, officers devoted a great deal of time to developing practical skills – working with manual dosimetric control devices. Participants learned to detect sources of ionizing radiation, identify them, categorize and record data, evaluate the legality of radioactive sources crossing the border, practised with the central alarm station software, studied the procedure for responding to alarm events detected by dosimetric control equipment.
