On April 11, 2019 the specialists of the Nuclear Security Competence Centre of Excellence (NSCOE) conducted the initial mandatory radiation safety training for SBGS officials guarding the nuclear facilities.
The training consists of two parts:
- E-learning module that took place on April 2-10 has been accommodated at Moodle on-line platform;
- 8 hrs contact training covers the following topics: nuclear and other radioactive materials, their physical properties and effects on human health, radiation safety for workers and residents, individual and workplace monitoring, dosimetric devices and personal protective equipment. Also Lithuanian and international experience, case studies and lessons learned in the field of radiation safety were presented and discussed. At the end of the training, all the participants successfully passed the test and will be issued certificates of qualification in the nearest future.
That was the first trainings of this kind conducted for SBGS officials. In order to prepare and conduct the training, BSKC specialists had to pass the certification of the State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (SNPSI) and obtain qualification certificates that allow to conduct this training This is the result of consistent cooperation between the NSCOE and State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate, the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant and other competent authorities in the areas of nuclear safety and security.
