On the 24th of May in 2013 The Nuclear Security Centre of Excellence (NSCOE) together with The United States of America Department of Energy’s Second Line of Defense Sustainability experts organized fixed radiation monitoring equipment maintenance training. These courses were designed for the State Border Guard Service at the Ministry of Interior and Directorate of Border Crossing Infrastructure at the Ministry of Transport and Communication staff, which is responsible for stationary radiations control gates maintenance.
The main purpose of this course was to train participants to recognize and identify the equipment malfunction as well as perform basic equipment maintenance actions.
In this course The United States of America Department of Energy’s Second Line of Defense Sustainability experts used both theoretical and practical trainings in order to familiarized the participants with the equipment maintenance works; they also presented radiation control gate’s system, its components, as well as discussed current maintenance and repair procedures.
The participants had an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in practice while completing individual tasks that were assigned by the experts at the Vilnius Frontier Station Medininkai Border Control Point. The participants worked with radiation control gate and software for gate’s maintenance. At the end, The Second Line of Defense experts issued training certificates, welcomed the trainees’ competence and their willingness to share their best practice.
