On January 14, 2019, the Nuclear Security Center of Excellence in cooperation with nuclear regulatory body – the State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate organized and conducted the interagency workshop on the Basics of the Physical Protection for personnel of the Public Security Service under the Ministry of the Interior (PSS). The aim of the workshop is to familiarize PSS personnel with the organization and execution of physical protection of nuclear facilities.

The following topics were presented and discussed during the interactive workshop the principles of physical protection, elements of the physical protection system, nuclear security threats and real incidents case studies. Participants of the workshop were also introduced to the principles of the radiation protection, personal safety principles and measures, and measures in case of an incident. Other both SBGS and PSS cooperation questions related to the physical protection of vital infrastructure were discussed.

Additionally, the virtual 3D training tool representing the fictitious nuclear site “Shapash” was presented and discovered by the audience.
