On June 10–14, 2019 in Seibersdorf (Republic of Austria) the International Atomic Energy Agency organized a Technical Meeting on Advanced Techniques for Equipment Testing Under Field Conditions. Representatives of various institutions from Kenya, Egypt, Hungary, the Russian Federation, China, Malaysia and other countries participated in the meeting. V. Marcinkevicius, Chief Specialist of the Nuclear Security Center of Excellece (NSCOE) of the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania participated in this meeting.

The main purpose of the event was to share information and provide guidance on the development of the test plans and methods for radiation detection equipment for nuclear security purposes.

Static and dynamic tests were carried out to determine the functionality and capabilities of the equipment and sources of ionizing radiation of the same activity were used for testing. All equipment tested has been tested under “field” conditions to search for sources of ionizing radiation in buildings, cargo storage sites, and designated “outdoor” areas.

The knowledge and experience gained during this meeting will be adapted to the practical functions of radiation control in the services.
