On 21 November 2019 with Nuclear Security Centre of Excellence coordination from the United States Department of Energy (US ED) received support to the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania (SBGS) – stationary radiation detection equipment. The support was given in the framework of the SBGS, the Directorate of Border Crossing Infrastructure under the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania and the US ED joint project “GROUP 8”. The value of the support from the US is $ 544,203.
The aim of this project is improving the infrastructure of border control points by installing modern stationary radiation detection equipment at Lithuanian border control points. It is being carried out in two phases: the first, the upgrading of the Rambynas Border Cross Point, is due to be completed at this year, and the next phase, in 2020, – developing the stationary radiation detection equipment at the Panemune, Raigardas and Salcininkai Border Cross Points. The total value of the project is about 3 million USD.
