On July 22-26, 2019 Aleksejus Livsic, as representative of the Nuclear Security Centre of Excellence (NSCOE), attended International workshop on Nuclear security support centre programmes on the security of radioactive material and associated facilities. The event was organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). As a Chair of the IAEA-coordinated Nuclear Security Training and Support Centres Network (NSSC Network) for 2018 to 2020, he leaded the event overseeing the agenda and pursuing the objectives of the event, moderating sessions and panel discussions and developing the final report.

The objectives of the workshop were to:

  • discuss best practices and lessons learned implementing the NSSC programme on Security of radioactive material and associated facilities;
  • share information among NSSCs, IAEA and other stakeholders on the respective needs and capabilities;
  • to identify the ways to strengthen NSSC capabilities.

Nowadays, the NSSC Network consist of 58 institutions from 61 Member States. Lithuanian NSCOE has been actively participating in the Network‘s activities since 2012.
